I am your host Karen, and I really appreciate you hitting the play button to listen to today's episode. Now in today's episode, I am going to be talking about how to create digital products that practically they sell themselves. So I'm sticking on the theme of digital products and I just wanna break it down and share with you some tips to help you create digital products that's actually going to sell. There's no point creating things in your business if there's no audience and you're not gonna get those sales. So today I just want to share with you some things that will help you if you are currently in the process of creating things in your business or maybe you're even thinking about it.

Today, I'm going to share with you some of those tips. But before I do I want to tell you about something exciting that I'm launching this week. I have been in this space for a while, the, digital product space, and I absolutely love it. And what it does for me, for my business, is that it brings time back. It gives me time to focus my energies and my efforts into the creating things that I know supports my business's growth. And I have seen a tremendous amount of change in my business, in how I feel about my business and my enjoyment levels have just skyrocketed because I'm able to create things that I know will serve, will make a difference and that makes a difference to my business. So what I set out to do a while back is to help other service based providers move online and create products and offers that they can sell with confidence and ease because it does make a difference. And if you have started a business to support your life, to give you time to enjoy the things that you want to enjoy, then working in a one to one scenario, constantly charging your time for money is is just going to limit you.

And so what inspired this podcast was I wanted to break it all down. I wanted to make it accessible, achievable, and help others that are looking to create the same outcome for themselves. So digital products are goods that can be consumed in a digital form. So unlike physical products, which require things like manufacturing, shipping, and storage, digital products that are delivered online. And they're delivered obviously through the internet, which means you can get instant access. So things like ebooks, online courses, software, digital art, even music downloads, templates, webinars, memberships. They are all digital products, and business owners often have the ability to create digital products easily in their business because the likelihood is that you are most likely using something on a day to day basis that can be packaged and sold to other entrepreneurs or business owners that need what you have. Now the great thing about digital products is that you literally build it once and then you sell it on repeat. As an entrepreneur who is running a business or growing a business. It's something that can sort of sit in the background and you can make money from whilst you're busy doing other things.

Karen Davies [00:07:25]:
And that is the attraction of creating digital products. That's why being able to move your business online and sell online will help your business to grow because it's scalable. And the great thing is that, you know, there is some upfront effort, but once you've done that, you can then sell it on repeat. And that's going to be what is going to help bring time back into the business. Because if you're making money from other revenue sources. It means that you can spend your time doing the things that you actually want to do. So that's the benefit of creating digital products in your business. But I think before you get to that point of actually getting it out there and selling it, there are a few things that you need to do beforehand so that you can create offers that are going to sell.

Karen Davies [00:08:16]:
Because here's the thing. There's no point creating offers that we think our audience needs. We have to be so sure that what we're creating, there's a demand for. So first and foremost, when you're creating digital offers in your business, you must understand exactly who you are selling to. You have to know your audience inside out. Because the key to creating digital products that ultimately sell themselves lies in understanding your audience, knowing what they like, knowing what their challenges are, where they are in their journey what they're looking to get from you as well. So what is it that they need from you? And then once you understand that you can then start by brainstorming ideas. You can then research your market and then you can create something off the back heck of that that speaks to their needs and their desires and that resolves challenges.

Karen Davies [00:09:20]:
Now I've said this before in previous episodes. As entrepreneurs and business owners, you are in the problem solution business. Your job is to provide a solution to your audience. You are fixing a problem or a challenge through the work that you do and it is no different with digital products. You need to understand who your audience are what their biggest challenges are that you can support them with before you even start creating digital products. One of the things that is really important when you are going through this process is identifying a profitable idea that is going to sell. And as I said, you need to have a really clear understanding of your audience. But by doing that, that is going to bring ideas to the table and you will be able to come up with ideas that will sale.

Karen Davies [00:10:18]:
So the more you know about your audience, the know you the more you know about your ideal customer, the more likelihood is that you're going to come up with ideas that are going to be needed. And I think that's the most important thing. I'd probably say actually in the entire process, this piece here is the most important because if you don't nail this piece, then everything else will just fall down. It's a bit like building a a house on sand. You need those really strong foundations in place. Without those foundations, the building is not going to stand on its own. And this is exactly true for digital products. You need to lay those foundations and get those foundations in place.

Karen Davies [00:11:03]:
And part of those foundations, is really understanding who your ideal client is so that you can actually deliver solutions that work. So you need to look for gaps in your market and understand where things are not being delivered. So it might be that you are serving your ideal client and maybe you're having conversations and discussions around things that they are struggling with and maybe you're noticing that nobody is providing the thing that's needed to resolve this challenge. So therefore, that could be a gap in your market that you can then fill. So the more you know about your audience, the more conversations you have, the more research you do, the better informed that you're going to be and the more effective your offers going to be as well. I think it's really important to get clear on what niche you are serving so that you know exactly who you are targeting. When I work with clients in the branding studio and we I carry out a brand recovery session, which is what I always do at the start of a project. This is where I sort of deep dive into their business and I find out about what they do and who they serve and all of that good stuff.

Karen Davies [00:12:22]:
The amount of times that clients have said to me when I've asked them who is your ideal client, and they have turned around and said everyone. Now you cannot serve everyone. It is impossible. All you're going to do is dilute your efforts and your message is going to get lost. It's going to get lost because when you're not being specific, you're being vague. And when you're being vague, your message will not land with anyone. So when you are looking at creating digital products, you need to really understand your niche, your ideal client, and you need to really get to the bones of exactly what they are looking for so that when you are in the selling process, the selling part of the journey. You can really streamline your messaging and you can really target that person that you want to buy your products.

Karen Davies [00:13:18]:
So getting really clear on that upfront is really important. I cannot stress this enough, so start by carrying out market research, identify exactly what niche you're in, and have a look at market trends and look at your competitors and what they're doing and the services and the products they're offering. Get really clear on who is doing what in your market because this is going to fill you with ideas and inspiration and also insights as well. Because if your competitors are not providing a solution to a specific problem, then you know that is a gap that you can fill. The other thing to do is you must identify the needs of your ideal clients. So understand their challenges and their pain points. And you can do this by carrying out surveys and interviews and even focus groups. So if you work with your ideal client and you have done service based work with them, carry out a survey with them or ask to interview them and and have a conversation.

Karen Davies [00:14:29]:
Sometimes that's all it takes to find out what is missing. So don't be afraid to have a conversation with them because you may be able to identify reoccurring problems all things that have not been met just by having a conversation. And then also think about your skills and interest as well. Where does your expertise lie? What skills are you bringing to the table? And what are you interested in as well? Because this is gonna fuel your ideas when you start brainstorming ideas around products to create. So get really clear on your skills because there's no point creating something that you're not passionate about. You have to bring that passion into it. I have to say, I absolutely love the work I do. I love serving digital creatives.

Karen Davies [00:15:23]:
I love supporting their journey and helping them to get started because I know the difference it's going to make to their business. And I like to think that even through this podcast, I bring that passion with me because I'm so passionate about what we are doing here, the impact that we are creating and how we can really serve people at a greater level. Don't ever underestimate what you bring to the table and what you're able to do. Because what you think might be easy for you may be a really big challenge for somebody else what you can give them could create an amazing impact that leads to an incredible transformation. So it's really important to bring that passion to the table and to really choose something that you just know that you're going to bring heart and soul to. I just think that is so important in business. Business shouldn't be about making money. If you are good at what you do and you show up and you be consistent and you create quality products and services, the money will come because you'll find the strategies and you'll you'll do the work and you'll show up and you'll be consistent.

Karen Davies [00:16:38]:
It should not be about money. It should be about showing up and serving your people and creating offers and services even that make a difference to them. So once you have your ideas then you need to validate them. So again, go back to your people if you are already in conversation with your ideal client. And don't be afraid to ask them to beta test your offer. I'll see if they will test it out and then give you feedback or even a testimonial. But once you validate your idea and you have proof that what you've created works then you can then move to the selling phase and the marketing phase. Okay.

Karen Davies [00:17:22]:
So once you have done all that and you know that you've got an idea for your offer because all of that market research, talking to your clients, validating your idea, all of that good stuff, you're gonna have your idea in place. It's it's time to create it. So you could be creating an ebook. You could be creating an online course or you could just be creating a set of templates. It really doesn't matter. The idea behind this is whatever you're creating, you build it once and you sell it on repeat. This is where design is really important. Whatever you're creating, it needs to be professional.

Karen Davies [00:18:05]:
It needs to be effective and it needs to have a desirability around it. The digital product market is saturated. This is one of the downsides of creating products is that you're most likely going to be in a space that's saturated. However, it doesn't mean that what you're creating is not going to sell. You just need to have the right strategies in place, but also you need to create quality offers as well. That's what's gonna help you stand out in a crowded marketplace. So creating a compelling product that's going to sell is a combination of understanding what your customers need and then designing a solution that is TIFF. Now there are plenty of tools on the market to help you create your product.

Karen Davies [00:18:55]:
One of my favorite tools that I absolutely love is Canva. And I know Canva's quite popular. A lot of entrepreneurs are using Canva. It's really easy to use. They have a brilliant interface so that you can literally pick it up and get going with it. And it comes loaded with templates as well. So if you are thinking about creating a checklist or a cheat sheet or an ebook or a guide of some kind. You're most likely going to find a template in Canva that you can start with.

Karen Davies [00:19:29]:
Now what I will say here is never settle with a template. Always make it your own and develop it in your own way. So once you've created your product, then it's going to be time to think about selling it. Now one of the things that I would advise anybody to do before they actually jump into promoting online is to work on the messaging. Messaging is absolutely vital here. In fact next week's episode I'm gonna talk about because it's pivotal to being able to sell something. You have an offer and you wanna get it in front of the right people and you want them to feel the desire about buying it. But in order to do that, you need to have really effective messaging.

Karen Davies [00:20:17]:
And this is where a lot of entrepreneurs struggle because they don't know what to say, how to say it, and sometimes who to say it to. Some messaging is absolutely paramount. The thing about selling digital products is that it takes time to find the right formula that's going to work for you. There are lots of things out there on the market that tell you how to do x y and z and why you must do that because it's the silver bullet that you need to make whatever you're doing work for you. And I've been doing this long enough to know that actually everybody is unique. We all have different customer bases. We all are offering different things and where we show up is different as well. And there is no magic bullet that is going to make selling digital products easy.

Karen Davies [00:21:12]:
What makes selling easy is showing up and being consistent and and putting the work in and then figuring out what works for you. And that takes time. It takes time to build a successful business. It takes time to create products that sell. It takes time to even work out what selling strategy is right for you and your business. But what I do believe is that by putting in the time and showing up and doing the work and sticking with it, that's what's going to lead to success. And when you have a product that you can sell on repeat that brings you in reoccurring revenue every day, every week, every month, every year, then that makes starts to make your business this look very different, and that's what starts to bring in the freedom into your life as well. So everything I've shared with you today, the steps are important.

Karen Davies [00:22:11]:
You need to really understand who your audience are. You need to do the research. You need to carry out viability through validating ideas and brainstorming ideas, spending time mapping ideas out and then creating things that you can then go on to sell. But I think when it comes to selling, the the most important thing I believe that people need to understand is that it takes time to figure out what will actually work. So you have to spend time working on your messaging. You have to spend time streamlining your brand, making sure everything, all of your assets are matching. So when you do put stuff out there, your audience know it's you, and you have to keep at it. And that might be you have to keep reiterating and making changes.

Karen Davies [00:23:01]:
But once you figure out what works, then the payoff is so worth it. Thank you for listening to today's episode.
