Karen Davies [00:01:42]:

Now before I dive into today's episode, I just want to talk to you about the ultimate marketing bundle that I've recently put together. Now this has been designed to help you get really clear about your business. One of the things that many clients talk to me about is how much they struggle with marketing their business. Karen Davies [00:03:28]:

I've had some really great feedback off the back of this. And go and plan for next year and really nail your brand. Right. Okay.

Karen Davies [00:04:03]:

So let's get into today's episode which is actually one of my favorite topics to talk about and that's niching. Now when I talk about niching, I think it can be really confusing, and it can certainly be overwhelming because the amount of people that I have spoken to, the amount of clients that come through my door and I say to them, who is your ideal client, and they'll be like, I can work with anybody. Honestly, if I had a pound for every time somebody said that to me, then I would be super super rich. But here's the thing. You can't market to everybody because if you try to, your message is going to get lost in the void. You need to really nail it down. You need to be really succinct so that you're talking to 1 person. And that 1 person is most likely going to sit in a niche.

Karen Davies [00:04:51]:

So what is a niche? What do I mean when I say that? Niching just means referring to a specialized segment of the market. So instead of trying to target anyone and everyone, you're being really crystallized in who you're aiming at. So for example, instead of just saying I'm looking to attract coaches who need my services, there are so many different coaches out there. You could you can work with mindset coaches, transformational coaches, business coaches, health and wellness coaches, fitness coaches. There are so many coaches out there. So when we talk about niche, we're talking about getting really laser clear on exactly who that ideal client is where they sit in the segment. You can cater for a broader market, and it might be that you niche down based on a need or an interest or a specific problem. So it doesn't just have to be down to a profession, but it is really crucial you nail this because this is going to really help you when it comes to marketing.

Karen Davies [00:05:57]:

By identifying and targeting a specific niche audience. You're going to increase your chances of success because you can offer tailored solutions that are going to resonate with your target customer. Okay. So how do you find your niche? Because this is something that can be quite challenging as well. How do you even start, especially if you are starting out in your business and you're at that place where you are most likely working with anybody that may show an interest in your services. No judgement. We've all been there. I was very much like that the first couple of years in my business.

Karen Davies [00:06:37]:

I had a broad audience that I would try and speak to, and that was female entrepreneurs. Even before that in the very early days when I was just focusing on delivering websites and branding for clients. I worked with a whole manner of different clients right across so many industries in so many different niches and stuff. I did not niche. What I was looking for was project specific so I wasn't worried about Nichia. And it wasn't something that was really on my mind to do. However, through experience I realized that I was working with clients that I didn't care for. I didn't wanna work with them, and I was attracting the wrong people into my business.

Karen Davies [00:07:18]:

And that was affecting how I felt about my business. It was only when I really started to sit back and think about who I wanted to work with. What characteristics they had. What traits they had. Things became easier. So niching is really important because ultimately you wanna work with the people that you love to work with, that bring you joy, the make you wanna get up in the morning and get into your business and do the good that you're doing. And it has to be because you're working with the right people because ultimately that's what matters. So if you're looking to establish your niche, first and foremost, really important, you need to research.

Karen Davies [00:08:01]:

In order to successfully reach the people that you want to work with, you need to understand exactly who they are. So you need to take the time to understand who these people are, what their preferences are, what their pain points are, what their desires are, how you can help them and what those outcomes look like. Now there's lots of different ways to do this. You can conduct surveys. You can carry out interviews. You can run focus groups to gather valuable insights. You can analyze what your competitors are doing. You can go and have a look at customer reviews and what they're saying about you.

Karen Davies [00:08:40]:

You can have a look at industry trends and try and tap into opportunities that are exposing themselves. So there's lots of different ways that you can get clear on exactly where your niche is. You can also talk to previous clients. So if you've worked with a client that you've really enjoyed working with in the past them reach out to them, book a call, talk to them, find out as much about them as possible and also trying to understand why they're ideal to you. Was it because of the way they responded to the thing that you offered? Was it because of their needs? And what you offer taps into those needs. Was it the solution of the results that you delivered for them? Was it just a case of they were your sweet spot? They were the ones that really benefited by the work that you do. So you need to work out why they are your ideal client. What is it that makes them special? Get really clear.

Karen Davies [00:09:44]:

Spend time on this. You're never going to regret spending time on this. The more you know about your ideal client and your ideal audience, the easier it's going to be to create your offers, to write your message in, and also to create a brand that really resonates and speak to them as well. Everything more or less hinges off this. In marketing, we talk about this a lot. Ideal client. Who is your ideal client? What where are you niche in? Because it is so crucial to your success. If you do not know who you're trying to speak to, how can you create compelling and amazing messaging that's gonna resonate with them? You can't.

Karen Davies [00:10:25]:

It's going to be impossible. And when we try and speak to so many people that are scattered all across many different industries and niches, our messages just get lost and they become ineffective. And so we need to really streamline our thoughts and our thinking so that we understand exactly who that is we're talking to. Now in my ultimate marketing bundle that I've just mentioned, I have my dream client template. This has been designed solely to get you really clear on exactly who you're talking to. And it's been designed in a way that you can literally print it off, stick it by your desk. And every time you write content, you're writing to that 1 person. Look.

Karen Davies [00:11:10]:

This tool has been created to make this part of the process so much easier for you. And in the Ultima brand strategy planner, there is a segment in there that really does go into this in much detail because it's important. So if you are confused about who it is you wanna work with, you don't know exactly who that person is or what industry they're in or what segment of the market they're in or even you have no idea about niche in, then go and grab the marketing bundle because I promise you this will really help you to get clear on what that looks like for you. Okay. So something that's really important to know and I think this is something that many people are nervous about. Niching doesn't mean you're limiting your customer reach. In fact just by narrowing your focus you're going to become the go to expert in your niche. You're going to gain credibility and you're going to achieve trust within your target market.

Karen Davies [00:12:12]:

That's why nicheing is really important. So do not be afraid to narrow your focus and go deeper into a specific area whether that's a product, service, or content theme. Now once you've chosen your niche, it's time to establish your presence online. Most entrepreneurs, business owners have websites. Now websites reflect your positioning. They reflect who you are as a business. So it's really important to invest in a really good professional website. But the copy on the website, the images, the styling need to resonate with your ideal audience.

Karen Davies [00:12:51]:

So you need to create something that delivers the message that you're trying to get across. Now if you're looking to build your brand online, then you also need to harness the power of social media. You also need to know who your target audience are. You need to be really aware of your customers so that you can select the right platforms to engage and interact with them on. Be consistent with your messaging. When you know who your niche is and you've established what you wanna say to them, you need to be consistent in what you're delivering and share really valuable content that's going to foster those connections. So when it comes to nailing your niche, research is really important. I spoke about this earlier.

Karen Davies [00:13:41]:

So it isn't just about figuring out who your niche is but it's also about taking the time to really stand what their needs are. So you need to be invested in being able to really understand your audience. Once you understand them, you'll be able to create really compelling and tailored content that is going to resonate with them. And that's really important because that's the thing that is going to build that trust, that credibility, but also it's gonna give you authority in the space as well. Now it's going to be far easier to get yourself known in a small area than it is to try and be the authority and the expert in a larger area. Now what I mean by that is when you go into the mode of niching. You'll start to understand that if you build an audience of a certain type of person, profession, area of expertise. You can talk directly to them.

Karen Davies [00:14:43]:

You can make yourself heard directly to them. So rather than talking to all the coaches in the world, if you really nailed down your niche and say maybe who you wanted to speak to are coaches that work in the health and wellness space, that work in nutrition, that deal with customers that maybe have gut problems. You're really niching down into that area. So then if you were going to create content in order to connect with nutritional coaches and coaches that work with clients with gut health, then the content you're going to be creating is gonna be so specific to that person that you're trying to talk to that gonna get them to listen. So if I'm creating content and I want to help nutritional therapists that work with clients who have gut health problems, that, naturally, my content is going to be so specific in in what I've got to say because my my content's tailored specifically to them. Whereas if I'm trying to reach out to all the coaches and I'm trying to be everything to everyone, I'm not going to be able to create really tailored content because the coaches that I'm speaking to all sit in different areas. So I would be speaking broadly to them which means that my messaging is going to be more diluted. The clearer you can get to that person that you wanna work with the better and the easier it's going to be when it comes to your marketing.

Karen Davies [00:16:14]:

Always aim to provide real value with everything you put out. Address your ideal client's pain points. Get really clear on what they look like, and then offer solutions that actually make a difference. Be solution focused. As entrepreneurs, we are in the business of providing solutions. That's the nature of the work that we do. And so anything that we offer needs to deliver a solution. Be consistently delivering high quality content so that you can really establish yourself as the trusted authority within your niche.

Karen Davies [00:16:56]:

Okay. So I just want to touch upon the importance of measuring your success because everything that we do we need to be able to measure the effectiveness of what we're trying to achieve. When we are trying to reach the people that we wanna talk to. We need to measure our performance. We need to know if what we're doing is working. So we need to be able to put things in place that allow us to evaluate our progress so that we can make decisions based on the data that we have access to. So where possible, track your metrics like your website traffic, your conversion rates, your engagement levels, and also any client feedback that you receive. If you do jump on a call with an ideal client, write down what it is they're saying or record it and then transcribe the audio.

Karen Davies [00:17:54]:

This data is so valuable because what this is going to do, it's going to help you refine your strategies in the future and also it's gonna help you to adapt to your market that may evolve in the future as well. Finding your niche does require a combination of deep audience research. It requires you to be different, and it also requires you to establish a strong online presence as well. But you also need to constantly improve and tailor your content so that your niche, your audience are responding to it. And then you need to put things in place to measure your success. Now I think by following these strategies you're going to really strengthening your position within your market but also and more importantly, you're going to attract the right customers that will appreciate the value that you bring to the table.
